The US Department of Agriculture issued a recall for more than 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products on Wednesday due to potential E. coli contamination concerns. These meat items, manufactured by Cargill Meat Solutions, were distributed at Walmart stores nationwide. The recall notice specifies that the possibly contaminated beef was processed on April 26 and April 27. Despite no confirmed reports of illnesses linked to the meat, Cargill Meat Solutions initiated the recall "as a precautionary measure."
Cargill Meat Solutions confirmed that the potentially tainted products were delivered to Walmart outlets in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC. A Walmart representative stated, "The health and safety of our customers are always our top priorities at Walmart. As soon as we learned about the recall, we immediately removed the affected products and informed customers who may have purchased them."
The recall affects six types of meat products, including those labeled as "93% Lean 7% Fat All Natural Lean Ground Beef" and "Prime Rib Beef Steak Burgers Patties," according to the USDA. Customers who have bought any of the affected products are advised to either discard them or return them to the store where they were purchased. Cargill has set up a consumer hotline (1-844-419-1574) to address any inquiries about the recall.
